About The Role

Reporting directly to the CEO, the Head of Flight Operations (HOFO) is a key member of the Senior Leadership Team and is responsible for the management of a number of operational functions, including operational safety, operational compliance, line operations, rostering and the oversight of the training of all crew by the Head of Training and Checking. This full-time role can be based at our Southbank office in Brisbane, our headquarters at Cairns Airport or we are open to a flexible working arrangement for the right candidate.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Lead and oversee all Flight Operations activities, ensuring the highest standards of safety, compliance, and operational performance.
  • Ensure all flight operations are conducted in accordance with CASA regulations, the Air Operator's Certificate (AOC), and company policies and procedures.
  • Provide visible leadership and support to flight crew, fostering a positive, engaged, and high-performing operational culture.
  • Oversee pilot recruitment, workforce planning, and the development of training and checking programs.
  • Oversee flight crew compliance, qualifications, licensing, training records, and operational standards.
  • Drive continuous improvement in safety, quality, fatigue risk management, and operational risk management as part of the Safety Management System (SMS).
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with CASA and other industry stakeholders, ensuring effective regulatory engagement and compliance.
  • Manage operational resources, budgets, and staffing requirements to support safe, efficient, and commercially sustainable operations.

About You

  • Australian Air Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL-A) with current Instrument Rating, Multi-Engine Command Instrument Rating, and Class 1 Aviation Medical Certificate.
  • CASA approval (or ability to obtain approval) to hold the Head of Flight Operations appointment.
  • DHC8 or Airbus type rating desired or willingness to obtain, with extensive aviation industry experience, including high-capacity transport aircraft operations and management.
  • Strong knowledge of CASA regulatory requirements and demonstrated commitment to aviation safety, compliance, and operational excellence.
  • Current ASIC or ability to obtain
  • Poven ability to lead, motivate, and develop teams, build strong working relationships, and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with a collaborative approach and ability to work effectively across operational, executive, and regulatory environments.
  • Strong decision-making capability, attention to detail, resilience under pressure, and a commitment to customer service, reliability, and compliance.

Experience

  • Minimum 3,000 hours total aeronautical experience.
  • Minimum 2,500 hours as Pilot in Command (PIC).
  • Minimum 1,500 hours PIC on aircraft greater than 5,700kg MTOW.
  • Minimum 1500 hours PIC on multi-engine aircraft.
  • Minimum 2 years' operational experience on the DHC8 or a similar aircraft type.
