Being recognized as Rising Talent and Employee of the Year is no small feat, and for Wesley Edozie, this achievement speaks volumes about the dedication and passion he brings to every aspect of his work. Having worked as a Lead Technical Services Engineer at Ascend Airways for more than a year and a half, Wesley’s commitment to excellence and growth has already made a significant impact, not only within his team but across the entire organization too.
Upon receiving the award, Wesley expresses sincere gratitude, saying, “It feels amazing to be acknowledged for the effort I put in, but this accomplishment is really a reflection of the team’s support and collaboration. It’s a shared success.” This spirit of teamwork and mutual respect is a core value for Wesley, as he strongly believes that it’s the collective effort that leads to meaningful results.
Looking back on the experiences that shaped his career, Wesley reflects on the lessons learned throughout the whole professional journey. “There have been numerous moments, both challenging and rewarding, that have influenced my growth. Early in my career, I had the privilege of working with teams that constantly pushed me to think critically and take initiative,” he shares. Tackling tight deadlines, managing complex projects, and finding ways to turn setbacks into learning opportunities have all helped him develop the leadership skills that set him apart today.
When asked if he can recall his first day at Ascend Airways, Wesley answered with a smile: “I remember stepping into a new environment, alongside other newcomers, all excited to get started. There was a sense of shared purpose from the very beginning, which made it easy to feel part of something bigger”.
If there’s one thing that drives Wesley, it’s the opportunity to collaborate and innovate. When asked what three words best capture the essence of being part of the Avia Solutions Group family, he didn’t hesitate: “Collaboration, innovation, growth.” For Wesley, these values aren’t just buzzwords but the pillars that support every project he takes on.
One of the standout accomplishments from the past year has been Wesley’s role in ensuring the fleet’s high technical dispatch reliability during the busy summer period. “It was definitely a challenging time, but seeing the team work together to ensure everything ran smoothly despite high pressure environment was very rewarding,” he notes. However, he also emphasizes the importance of balancing work with personal life: “Spending quality time with family and friends is essential for me to recharge. It keeps me focused and motivated.”
Further reflecting on his career path, Wesley shares some advice he would give to his younger self: “I would tell myself to embrace the journey of continuous learning and never shy away from new challenges. Growth only happens when we step outside our comfort zones, and you must always stay open to feedback in order to push yourself even further.” Building strong relationships along the way is also something he wishes he’d focused on more early in his career.
Now that Wesley has experienced being named Employee of the Year, he would look for two key qualities, impact and collaboration, if he were to select the next winner. “It’s not just about individual performance. The real difference-maker is how an individual’s work contributes to the success of the team and the company as a whole,” he says. “Collaboration is just as important — it’s about working together to create a positive and productive environment where everyone can thrive.”
