Danielius Paskevic, the Lead of the Security Operations Center, has been honored as Employee of the Year in the Rising Talent category. “It feels amazing to be recognized,” Danielius shares. “I’m grateful for the support of my team — this achievement is as much theirs as it is mine. It motivates me to keep pushing for even better results.”
Danielius’ career at Avia Solutions Group began on December 27th, 2022, which he jokingly describes as “almost a Christmas gift.” Danielius’ professional journey has been shaped both by education and hands-on experiences. While his academic background in Computer Science and Information Technologies Security provided the essential groundwork, it was his work, particularly in leading a Security Operations Center team, that solidified his expertise.
“Handling real-world cybersecurity challenges, constantly learning about cybersecurity, and being curious about problem-solving has helped me grow as a professional. I see myself as leading an army of skilled warriors. Together, we’re defending a huge castle by building more walls and fences every day. In cybersecurity terms, this means constantly adding new security layers and strengthening our defenses,” says Danielius.
Over the past year, Danielius has achieved significant milestones, including guiding his team’s efforts in resolving critical incidents. Leading the Incident Response Team during high-pressure situations required not only technical expertise but also close collaboration with other teams. One of Danielius’ proudest accomplishments has been mentoring Junior Analysts, ensuring they gained valuable experience and skills by involving them in complex incidents.
Looking ahead to 2025, Danielius has ambitious goals as the Security Operations Center Lead. His mission is to stay ahead of evolving cybersecurity threats by reinforcing defenses and maintaining vigilance. According to Danielius, in 2024, the aviation industry was a prime target for malicious actors, with an increase in phishing attacks, malware, and vulnerabilities.
“The lesson I learned is that we must be proactive in strengthening our defenses and continuously adapt to emerging threats. 2024 highlighted the importance of constant vigilance, timely response, and collaboration across teams to protect against such targeted attacks,” shares the cybersecurity professional.
Despite the demands of his role, managing and responding to critical incidents being the most energy-intensive aspect, Danielius finds balance through his hobbies and other activities. Spending time with family, playing video games, and watching sports serve as his recharge mechanisms, helping him avoid burnout and return to work rejuvenated.
When asked what career advice he would give his younger self, Danielius would suggest embracing risks, asking questions, and stepping out of his comfort zone. He strongly believes these principles are integral to anyone’s career journey and success.
What criteria would Danielius set for the future Employees of the Year and why? Danielius values traits like initiative, reliability, and a collaborative spirit. He believes in recognizing individuals who consistently go the extra mile and contribute positively to their teams. “I would look for someone always willing to step up without being asked twice, offering help to others proactively, and helping create a positive environment.
