Responsibilities:
The Commander has responsibility for the following:
Determining the airworthiness status of the aircraft and his acceptability considering unserviceability in
accordance with the configuration deviation list (CDL) or the minimum equipment list (MEL).
Ensuring, for each flight, a description of known or suspected defects that affect the operation of the
aircraft is recorded in the AJTL.
Precluding a light from departing until any defect affecting airworthiness is processed in accordance
with the MEL/CDL.
Ensuring that the pre-flight inspection has been carried out.
Ensuring that every flight is operated in accordance with the prescribed procedures, regulations, requirements, except in emergency situations where they may deviate from these practices in the interest of safety.
The safety of all crew members, passengers and/or cargo onboard, as soon as the commander arrives on board the aircraft, until the commander leaves the aircraft at the end of the flight.
The operation and safety of the aircraft from the moment the aircraft is ready to move for the purpose of taking off until the moment it finally comes to rest at the end of the flight and the engine(s) are shut down.
Verify general conditions and ensure the emergency equipment secured in place and that relevant emergency equipment remains easily accessible for immediate use.
Ensuring that all passengers are briefed on the location of emergency exits and the location and of relevant safety and emergency equipment.
Ensuring that all imitations, operational procedures and checklists are complied with in accordance with
the operations manual.
Not permitting any crew member to perform any activity during critical phases of fight, except duties required for the safe operation of the aircraft.
