About the role

Reporting to the General Manager, Safety & Quality, the Safety Officer supports the implementation and continuous improvement of SmartLynx Australia’s Safety and Quality Management System (SMS & QMS). The role involves auditing, compliance assurance, safety data management, and safety promotion, while also assisting with Emergency Response Planning, Flight Data Monitoring, and maintaining relationships with regulators and stakeholders.

This position can be based either at our Cairns office (Cairns Airport) or our Southbank office (Brisbane City).

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and administer the company’s Safety and Quality Management System (SMS) in line with the SMM.
  • Conduct audits, manage findings, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Oversee safety data, reporting, and Flight Data Monitoring.
  • Support risk management, safety promotion, and change management activities.
  • Liaise with Air Services Australia, ATSB, CASA, foreign regulators, IATA, ICAO, ASG Group of companies, BARS and other key stakeholders.
  • Prepare safety reports and assist with emergency response planning.
  • Perform other duties as directed by the GM Safety & Quality.
  • About You
  • Qualifications in Aviation Safety Management Systems (or equivalent experience).
  • Lead Auditor and Safety Investigator qualifications (or ability to obtain within 12 months).
  • Strong understanding of CASA’s regulatory framework, safety and quality systems, and procedures.
  • Experience with auditing, risk management (e.g. BowTie), and safety reporting tools such as Air Maestro.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organisational skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Able to work collaboratively with crews, engineers, and external partners on safety and quality matters.
  • Holds or can obtain an ASIC and Dangerous Goods Awareness Certificate.
  • Flexibility to travel when required, including on short notice.
